ACF contributor Jim Shelley has banked his sixth UK fifty, a 52lb linear. This puts Jim’s tally of UK fifties as the second best in the country, only bettered by Terry Hearn, who has seven to his name.

The capture from a large pit in Cambridgeshire has sparked much controversy and rumour-mongering, following the fish having moved, of its own accord, from one lake to another during severe flooding just a couple of weeks ago.

On speaking to ACF, the fully qualified angling coach commented: “It was a bittersweet capture. It’s an incredible fish and I was overjoyed at catching it, although it wasn’t until it had been returned that I worked out exactly what it was.

Unfortunately, otters had damaged it, but I did all I could to clean and treat the wounds before returning it to the 90-acre pit that I caught it from. It’s a shame that certain people have decided to spread rumours and try to discredit the capture without knowing what really happened.”

See the full story in Jim’s own words only in the August issue of ACF. Better still, this is the only place you’ll see the catch pictures too. August issue on sale July 9th.
